Explaining

I have spent a good deal of my life working on how to explain bits of the world. How to understand things in better and better ways. Why? In part to describe things, in part to try and figure how things, people, events and processes work. Some at a very simple “what’s going on here?” level (not so simple by the way), some so I can try to figure “what might happen next” and some to get to predict a few things.

The notes in this series of posts seek to document some of that. I call them notes because while there are thousands of grand sounding words to describe all this, I have no need (well certainly not any more – once I had careers and jobs and money and so on that meant that sometimes sounding vaguely authoritative might be helpful…. it’s own illusion in some respects but not one it’s very popular to be honest about). For now I want to record some of the thoughts.

So these are notes. I may try to string them together at some point but I am unapologetic about the “maybe”, the “perhaps” and certainly about attempts to try and render anything coherent in any academic or bookish sense. Getting something down is more important at present.

I will keep recording my method and what I’m thinking, here on this page. For the moment this, above, will get me started. The category “Explanation” will signpost these notes and will signal “read or ignore”.
